Characteristic data
Modern line for nailing EURO and CHEP pallets. A line with a completely excluded hydraulic system, which is the most critical point of this type of machine. In our line, nailing is done by a servo mechanism, which eliminates the cost of servicing the hydraulics completely. The entire transport system of the line is made on inverters, which allows you to slow down the transport system at any time in a fraction of a second on two operator touch panels. From the program, we choose the method of stacking the pallets, in the case of 4-way pallets – unidirectional, in the case of 2-way pallets, we can also stack alternately.
The pallet nailing line is designed for the production of pallets made from pre-formatted material with a tolerance of +/- 5 mm.
The machine construction is a welded structure made of high-strength closed profiles. Each machine module is separately connected with the others, making a ~39 m long line.
The control system of EURO/CHEP pallet nailing line consists of the following components:
• PLC controller – main control unit
• operator panel with a touch screen – operator interface
• geared motors on each conveyor
• I/O modules
• buttons, signalling devices, sensors and executive elements
• system of remote connection with the PLC controller enabling remote diagnostics
The type of automatic operation is defined using the “Pallet type” drop-down list.
The following types of processing are available:
• EURO / Epal pallet – dimensions 1200/800 mm
• Euro-imitation pallet – dimensions 1200/800 mm (without marking)
• Non-standard 1200/1000 mm pallet – CHEP style
• 1200/800mm custom pallet

Full description
1. BLOCK FEEDING SYSTEM
The block feeding module is based on a belt conveyor, a system of sliding positioning bands and a rotating beam with pneumatic grips. The boards have a wide range of adjustments, which allows the line to be adjusted to both different sizes of supporting blocks and their different spacing. The optimally selected length of the conveyor and the system of pneumatic locks allow for buffering of the blocks, which makes the work of the line operator much easier.
2. TOP LAYER BOARDS MAGAZINE
The feeding system of top layer boards is prepared for the use the material of various dimensions: thickness 14 ÷ 40 mm, width 50 ÷ 170 mm, length 700 ÷ 1300 mm. The position of the transverse board is adjusted by using trapezoidal screws. The board is fed using pneumatic cylinders. The longitudinal piece can have the following dimensions: thickness 10 ÷ 40mm, width 85 ÷ 200mm, length 800 or 1000 mm (if you want to use a different length of boards, additional equipment should be ordered). The number of boards depends on their dimensions. Changing the width and spacing of the boards takes place thanks to the free movement of the trays on the guide beam. The feeder is equipped with a height compensation system above the bed. The machine is converted to a different number of longitudinal piece by changing the number of easily disassembled containers and by replacing the guide beam. Right in front of the nailer there is a board positioning system equipped with a spring compensation system. Thanks to this solution, it is possible to lay the boards without a gap.
3. SERVODRIVE NAILING UNIT 1
The module is built from durable, thick-walled closed profiles, which ensures adequate stiffness of the construction. Drive system equipped with a high torque servo drives constitutes the heart of the nailer. Thanks to the use of a highly efficient drive and highly efficient ball screw gears, the machine has low level energy consumption (when compared with a traditional hydraulic solution). Servo motors allow programming the position of the stop beam, which enables automatic adjustment of the nailing depth, depending on the type of pallet produced. The linear ball bearings guide the main beam enabling high speed of work, low movement resistance and high system stiffness.
The nailing system is equipped with an additional mechanical compensation system that allows initial pressing of the pallet layers before putting the nails in. The heads are made of high-quality tool steel, ensuring long, trouble-free operation. The special, split structure of the working head prevents its damage in the event of a nail jamming. The two-row mounting system of the heads allows their positioning in two directions (for each row) – giving the possibility of effortless setting the position of the nails. The maximum width of the pallet is 1300 mm (it is possible to make a special larger width on request). When ordering a machine with the option to produce a CHEP pallet, the first nailing system (two nailers across the line) is equipped with three hoppers. During the working process, up to 30 nails can be nailed in simultaneously. This number can be easily limited depending on the needs of the process. The machine is equipped with a system of sensors that check the correct application of individual nails. Thanks to this, it is possible to control the production process and eliminate defective pallets.
The nail containers are equipped with 10 sorting slots each. Sorting is done using pneumatic cylinders.
The parts of the pallet are guided to individual sections with the use of two guide chains equipped with grips for carrier beams. The chains are guided on plastic rails, reducing wear and lowering the noise level of the system. The handles allow for adjusting the distance of consecutive parts of the pallet – thus enabling the distinction of the distribution of the transverse sections of the pallet (shortening and lengthening the final product).
4. PALLET FLIPPER
The pallet is rotated using arms with adjustable spacing mounted on a rotating beam. The drive used is a three-phase electric motor. The pallet is gripped by the claws equipped with pneumatic actuators. The minimum pallet width is 800mm and the maximum is 1300mm.
In its current configuration, the line is 38.6 m long. All sections are equipped with adjustable feet. To supply the line, a three-phase connection, extractors for chips in the cutting section and a pneumatic supply of 6 bar are required.
5. BOTTOM LAYER BOARDS MAGAZINE
The bottom of the CHEP pallet, unlike the EURO pallet, may contain perpendicular boards arranged on one level. This arrangement is demanding for automatic machines. At this point of the process, other manufacturers typically rely on the use of an additional personnel (2 people), to arrange the timber by hand. In the case of a this machine, this process is fully automatic.
The boards are positioned using a special pneumatic positioning system. As in the case of the stacking containers for the upper part of the pallet, also in this case the range of boards used is very wide. In the presented version of the machine, at this stage of the process, it is required to provide boards with undercuts (undercuts for a forklift truck), but it is possible to order a special version of the machine with a square beam undercutting system.
Due to the smaller number of nails used on the bottom of the pallet, the bottom nailer is equipped with two nail collectors. This enables up to 20 nails to be nailed in at the same time.
6. SERVODRIVE NAILING UNIT 2
See paragraph 3.
7. CORNER CUTTING AND CHAMFERING
The module consists of four saws and 2 milling units. Its feed is carried out by pneumatic actuators. The position of the saws is adjustable in two directions. The maximum width of the pallet is 1300mm, and the minimum is 800mm. The saws are equipped with outputs for connecting the chip extraction devices, which are necessary due to fire safety.
8. MARKING SYSTEM
In the case of marking, the system is equipped with six induction markers with two-way adjustment of position. The clamping of the stamps is done pneumatically. The pallet travels through a system of two chains. Positioning the pallet on the appropriate sections is one by a pneumatic positioning element (its position is adjustable).

9. PALLET FLIPPER
See paragraph 4.
10. STACKING SYSTEM
The maximum stack height is 3.4 m. The control system is used to regulate the number of pallets in a single stack. The pile is lifted using pneumatic actuators. The number of free (receivable) stacks in the configuration shown is 4 (with additional 1 stack waiting in the buffer covered by the protective cage, and another 1 being currently stacked – making it 6 altogether). At the customer’s special request, it is possible to extend the conveyor in order to obtain a larger pallet buffer. The stacks are shifted using a chain conveyor equipped with two chains.
The line is permanently marked with the CE mark
